The Stockholm Writers Group

The Stockholm Writers Group (SWG) is a collection of published authors and emerging writers interested in honing our craft through regular support and critique, and special learning sessions. Our writers work across a variety of genres with the ultimate goal of publication for most. Our mission is to encourage members to write and to nurture the development of their abilities through constructive feedback.

Meet our writers

Structure

We meet in person on a bi-weekly basis. At each meeting we critique the previously submitted materials of three members, as well as zoning in on our selected development topics for the current semester.

We work with a maximum of 12 members to ensure productive discussion and sufficient time to focus on each member’s work. The group works in English, with all members writing in English.

How We Critique

Group critique of each submitted piece lasts 30-45 minutes. The writer being critiqued remains silent during the discussion. Every critique begins with positive feedback.

We provide suggestions for improvement. It’s up to the author to take them or not. We focus on everything from plot, and structure to character and style, rather than zooming in on line edits. Although if the author asks, they get those too.

Our Network

The Stockholm Writers Group has a close affiliation with the annual Stockholm Writers Festival, whose founder Catherine Pettersson is a long-standing member of SWG.

The Stockholm Writers Group also has close ties with the Stockholm Writers Network. This is an informal network for writers, organizing get-togethers for writers to support one another. Every day the network hosts online accountability sessions.
